Cyclone & typhoon tracker

Official warning

Observed storm positions and official forecast tracks, taken directly from the warning centre responsible for each basin. Prakruti draws only positions an agency has published and never synthesises a forecast track or an uncertainty cone.

Coverage is partial, and that matters. Prakruti currently ingests only the NOAA National Hurricane Center. A quiet tracker does not mean a quiet planet: a typhoon may be active in the Western Pacific and simply not appear here. For any basin marked “not yet”, follow the official authority named above.

Wind speeds are not comparable across agencies. NHC reports the maximum 1-minute sustained wind; JMA, IMD and most other centres report a 10-minute average, which runs roughly 12% lower for the same storm. Prakruti stores the averaging period with every measurement and prints it beside every wind speed, so the two are never silently compared.

The Joint Typhoon Warning Center, which many trackers rely on for the Western Pacific, returns HTTP 403 to this platform. That is documented on the data sources page rather than worked around.
